The Arthur Smack Family Bible contains handwritten marriage, birth and death records of the Smack Family from Newark, Worcester County, Maryland. Family records were most likely written by Arthur Smack and his descendants, and includes family names from as early as the 1840s. The Bible, published in 1908 by A.J. Holman and Company, includes a comprehensive and illustrated history of the books of the Old and New Testaments, as well as additional narratives written by the Rev. Arthur Nevin D.D.

The Dennis Family photographs document the lives of Camilla Dennis, a Worcester County native, and Martha Groton, Camilla’s daughter. The photographs date from 1892 to 2007 and depict the Dennis family through a series of portraits as well as activities held at 207 East Isabella Street in Salisbury, Maryland. Published works within the collection reveal ties to Robert Naylor Roger’s Scottish clan ancestry.
Family Bible Collection

Bibles donated to the Nabb Center, whether singly or as part of a larger collection, have been integrated into this collection. A variety of print editions spanning from 18th Century to 20th century are represented, as well as various religious denominations and types of Bibles. Most of the Bibles contain hand-written notations of family history – including births, deaths, marriages and baptisms-- for several surnames beyond the title. Some may contain additional clippings or other items and some Bibles do not contain any family information. Family Bibles held by the Nabb Center and not included in this collection are also referred to in the inventory. A partial transcription of the family history pages is available upon request (full transcription will be made available online soon).
Freedom Ainsworth papers

The Freedom Ainsworth papers document the restoration and preservation efforts of three of the Manokin Historic District’s oldest structures Beckford Manor, Almodington and More And Case It (also known as Holly Hurst), located in Princess Anne, Md. The materials date from 1766-1767, 1803-1999 with the bulk of the material dating from the purchase and restoration of the three structures, 1967-1994. Restoration activities, as well as property histories, are documented via correspondence, detailed measurements and notes, architectural drawings, and photographs. Also documented through a series of ledgers are the accounting transactions of Henry Smith Lankford and H. Fillmore Lankford as well as various merchants from Somerset Count including Teackle Dennis and Teackle.

This collection contains documents that provide evidence of the Dennis line being of service during the Civil War and other associated documents, also including information on people that Stan Williams Jr. has researched. This collection includes documents given by the Historical Society of Frederick County which includes Martin's Index, Frederick County Will index, List of Headstone names, Frederick Marriage Licenses, Frederick County Census, and History of Frederick County pages that mention Dennis. Also included are Mosby's Virginia Cavalry information, official copied 10th and 19th Battalions of Heavy Artillery slips, Sons of Confederate Veterans official statement, and two documents of Mosby's Reg't Cavalry.

The Lynn Perry papers document his military service as an officer in the American Expeditionary Forces and a Lieutenant Corporal in World War II, as well as his personal interests in genealogy, the Mason-Dixon Boundary Line, and the Civil War with materials dating from 1880-1960, with the bulk of the materials dating from 1910-1945. Materials within the collection include his diary and a series of photographs from World War I, a World War II scrapbook documenting his work during a top secret mission in Alaska. In addition to the military service of Lynn Perry, his papers also include a scrapbook documenting Margaret Perry’s political career as President of the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women.

The Richard Cooper papers document his professional and personal activities through his collection of materials dating from 1605 to 2001. The documents focus on the religious and political histories of Wicomico and Worcester County as well as the history of the Mason-Dixon Boundary Line depicted through Cooper’s column in the Daily Times. The papers also document the topographic history of Delmarva through Cooper’s career as an engineering surveyor. Documents from his surveying career and interests include topographic maps, survey certificates, land deeds, and plats. A photograph album documents the construction of his family home at 611 Tony Tank Lane in Salisbury, Maryland. Materials within the collection include newspaper clippings, photographs, family histories, and correspondence. Drafts and manuscripts of Cooper’s published works on the history of Salisbury, Profile of a Colonial Community, Salisbury in Times Gone By, and Portrait of Salisbury are contained within the collection.

The Robert E. Perdue Family papers document the ancestors of Robert E. Perdue Jr. His branch of the family lived in the lower Delmarva region, with a majority living in Pittsville, Wicomico County, Maryland. As time progressed the Perdue’s married into other families such as the Jones, Williams, Dennis, and Taylors. The Pittsville Perdue’s played an important part in building the St. John Friendship Methodist church. Research materials include land records, genealogy conducted by Robert E Perdue in the pursuit of his family history. Research was conducted from 2004-2011, with the bulk being completed in 2009-2010. Perdue’s research spans from the 17th century to the 20th century.

The Davis family is documented through photographs, including tintypes, artifacts, baptismal certificates, newspaper clippings, an autograph book, bank check and receipt and other ephemera.
